Office Policies

Phone Policy

Telephone consultation is a major part of pediatrics. We have clinical staff assigned exclusively to take your calls, communicate with us and get back to you promptly. We urge you to call with all concerns and questions.

We are also available for telephone consultation during general office hours although, unless urgent, we will usually return your call as time allows during the course of the day so as not to inconvenience and delay the scheduled patients.

After-hours calls made to our office number will automatically be forwarded to the answering service. Your call will be promptly answered by an innovative service from Children’s Health Care of Atlanta called the Nurse Advise Line. Specially educated Registered Nurses located in the Emergency Department at Scottish Rite are trained to take your calls. We are available to them and you for any concerns at your request.

Presciption Policy

To avoid misdiagnosis and to ensure your child’s safety it is office policy not to call in antibiotic prescriptions for patients who have not been recently seen. For patients who do not appear to be responding to prescribed medication and for all routine prescription refills, we request that you call during regular office hours, when charts are available for our review, care is optimized and errors avoided. We urge you to have your pharmacy phone number available at that time.

Hospital Affiliations

All children requiring hospitalization will be admitted to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite through Doctor Direct, utilizing in-house physicians or "hospitalists." Specialist consultation will be sought as needed. We are also on staff at Northside Hospital; however, our newborns will be seen by staff neonatologists at this facility. Should your infant be delivered elsewhere we have arranged with fellow pediatricians and neonatologists at most of the area hospitals to see you and your baby while in the hospital. Once discharged, we will see you for follow-up care in our office.

Referrals: HMO/POS

Because of the large number of referral requests that managed care has imposed upon all of us, it has become necessary to ask that patients provide at least 72 hours prior notice to our office to complete their referral. This will allow the physicians and their staff to review the chart and to properly complete and forward the referral.

8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Saturday Sick Hours
8:00 am--10:00 am
Closed on Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day

Saturday appointments are intended only for sick children who cannot wait through the weekend to be seen. No routine immunizations, labwork or medication refills will be given on Saturday.

Patients are seen by appointment only. However, time is set aside daily to schedule sick children needing to be seen. We request that you call as early as possible if this need arises. We encourage you to see the physician of your choice. Usually you will be able to see that physician; however, occasionally you may be requested to see another physician in the practice. We will make every effort to see patients at their scheduled appointment time and in turn, request that you arrive promptly, calling well in advance for any delays. A walk-in fee of $17.00 will be charged for patients who do not call ahead for an appointment time. This is to minimize that "wait period" and to assure smooth running of the office. Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance in order to allow us to offer your appointment time to other patients needing care.
